盥洒（漢書云凡洗物曰盥說文澡手也從臼水臨皿會意字也澡音早臼音菊下洗西禮反字書從水從西傳文從先作洗俗用字）。

盥洒 (The Hanshu says: 'Washing things in general is called guàn.' The Shuowen says: 'To wash the hands.' It is an associative compound formed of 臼, 水, and 皿. Wash (澡) is pronounced zǎo (早); 臼 is pronounced jú (菊). The second character, xǐ, has the fanqie: 西 + 禮 [xǐ]. Character dictionaries write it with 水 and 西; in transmission it is written with 先 as 洗, which is a popularly used character).
