苛虐（上賀哥反賈逵注國語云苛酷也博雅云怒也廣雅云煩虐也說文從草可聲也傳文作荷非也）。

苛虐 (Harsh and cruel): The first character is read fanqie *h[è]-[g]ē* [kē]. Jia Kui's commentary on the *Guoyu* states: '苛 (*kē*) means harsh.' The *Boya* states: 'It means anger.' The *Guangya* states: 'It means vexatious and cruel.' The *Shuowen jiezi* states: 'It is classified under the radical *cǎo* (grass) with *kě* (可) phonetic.' In transmitted texts it is written as 荷, which is incorrect.
