燉煌（上遁魂反下音皇漢書云燉煌郡沙州也武帝元年分酒泉郡置之也杜林注云燉煌以為古瓜州也古今正字燉煌二字並從火形聲字也）。

燉煌 (Dunhuang): The first character is read fanqie *d[ùn]-[h]ún* [dùn]. The second character has the sound of *huáng*. The *Hanshu* states: 'Dunhuang Commandery is Shazhou; it was established in the first year of Emperor Wu by dividing Jiuquan Commandery.' Du Lin's commentary states: 'Dunhuang was regarded as ancient Guazhou.' The *Gujin zhengzi* states: 'Both characters of 燉煌 are classified under the radical *huǒ* (fire); they are phono-semantic characters.'
