躡懸縆（上尼輒反方言云躡猶登也蒼頡篇云躡延也象晴虹大矯而亘空以索亘向而直渡曰縆傳文從鬲作踾傳寫誤非也下亘恒反說文云縆索也從糸恒聲亦從木作𣕲急烈貌也）。

躡懸縆 (Treading on suspended ropes): The first character is read fanqie *n[í]-[zh]é* [niè]. The *Fangyan* states: '躡 (*niè*) means to ascend.' The *Cangjiepian* states: '躡 means to extend.' Resembling a clear rainbow curving boldly across empty space, stretching a rope across to traverse directly is called *gēng*. Transmitted texts write it with the tripod radical as 踾, which is a scribal error and incorrect. The third character is read fanqie *g[èn]-[h]éng* [gēng]. The *Shuowen jiezi* states: '縆 (*gēng*) means a heavy cord; it is classified under the radical *mì* (silk) with *héng* (恒) phonetic.' It is also written with the wood radical as 𣕲, signifying violent intensity.
