諳究（上暗含反廣雅云諳諷也埤蒼云誦也東觀漢記云皆諳具數考聲云諳記也古今正字從言音聲亦作論下鳩又反毛詩傳云究窮也郭注爾雅云盡也說文從穴九聲）。

Familiar with and thoroughly investigated (for the first [character 諳], a- + [h]an [ān]; the Guangya says: “'An' means to recite.” The Picang says: “To chant.” The Dongguan Hanji says: “All were familiar with and fully knew the accounts.” The Kaosheng says: “'An' means to remember.” The Gujin zhengzi gives it as following 言 (speech) with 音 as its phonetic; it is also written as 論. For the second [character 究], j- + [y]ou [jiù]; the commentary to the Mao classic of Poetry says: “'Jiu' means to exhaust.” Guo's commentary to the Erya says: “To end.” The Shuowen says: “It follows 穴 (cave) with 九 as its phonetic.”).
