希望（說文作晞同虗依反晞望也海岱之間謂晞廣雅晞視也下無方反說文出亡在外望其還也字從朢省聲若音無放反說文月滿與日相望也字從月但此字音體人多不辯故字從月不辯此兩釋也）。

Hoping (希望; Shuowen writes 晞, the same; fanqie x- [虗] + -y- [依]; xi (晞) means to gaze (望); between the sea and Mount Dai it is called xi (晞); Guangya: xi (晞) means to watch; the second character has the fanqie w- [無] + -f- [方]; Shuowen: "To go out and live abroad, and gaze hoping for his return"; the character is derived from wàng (朢) as an abbreviated phonetic component; if read with the fanqie w- [無] + -f- [放], Shuowen says: "The full moon facing the sun"; the character is derived from yuè (月, moon); but people often do not distinguish the pronunciation and form of this character, hence writing it with yuè (月) without discerning these two explanations).
