從廣（又作縱同足容反小爾雅云袤從長也廣擴也詩云撗從其畝韓詩傳曰南北曰從東西曰橫是也周禮九州之地域廣輪之數鄭玄曰輪從也廣之撗也）。

從廣 [lengthwise and broad]: [The first character] is also written 縱; [both are pronounced with the] fanqie 足容 (zòng). The Xiao Erya says: "Lengthwise (袤) and lengthwise (從) mean long; 廣 means broad." The Classic of Poetry says: "Whether lengthwise (從) or horizontal (橫) in their furrows." Master Han's commentary on the Classic of Poetry says: "North-south is called 從 (longitudinal); east-west is called 橫 (latitudinal)." This is it. The Rites of Zhou says: "The extent of the territory across the Nine Provinces, and the measurements of broad and lengthwise (廣輪)." Zheng Xuan says: "輪 means lengthwise (從); 廣 means latitudinal (橫)."
