鑑亾（上監懺反或作鑒一也訓釋同廣雅鑑照毛詩傳云鑒察形也說文形聲也）。

鑑亾 [to mirror the deceased / examine what has passed away] (The first character is pronounced with the fanqie 監懺 [jiàn]. It is also written as 鑒, which is identical; the gloss is the same. The Guangya says: '鑑 means to illumine.' The Mao Commentary to the Classic of Poetry says: '鑒 means to examine appearances.' The Shuowen jiezi says it is a phono-semantic character).
