炎蓐（上炎字說文云炎火行也從重火故月令云其啼炎帝其神蓐收玉燭寶典云蓐收金行也按炎蓐即自夏徂秋之謂也說文云蓐陳草復生也從廾辱聲籀文從𦬇𦬇音莽也）。

Summer and autumn (炎蓐: the first is the character 炎. The Shuowen says: "炎 is the movement of fire; it consists of doubled fire." Thus the Monthly Ordinances says: "Its emperor is the Fiery Emperor (Yan Di), its spirit is Rushou (蓐收)." The Yuzhu baodian says: "Rushou represents the element Metal." Note that 炎蓐 refers to the transition from summer into autumn. The Shuowen says: "蓐 means old grass sprouting anew; it has the grass radical 廾, with 辱 as phonetic." The large seal script has 𦬇; 𦬇 is pronounced like 莽 [mǎng]).
