顧眄（上古路反鄭箋毛詩云顧猶視也蒼頡篇云旋也廣雅云向也說文云迴視文從頁雇聲雇音同上下眠甸反說文眄猶邪視也又目偏合也從目丐聲丐音綿徧反傳文作眄俗謬字也）。

顧眄 (glancing and looking aside: the first character is a fanqie of 古 and 路 [gù]; Zheng's commentary to the Maoshi states: '顧 is like looking.' The Cang Jie pian states: 'It means to turn around.' The Guangya states: 'It means toward.' The Shuowen states: 'It means looking back;' the graph has semantic 頁 and phonetic 雇, with 雇 pronounced the same. The second character is a fanqie of 眠 and 甸 [miàn]; the Shuowen states: '眄 is like looking askance; it also means one eye being half-closed;' it has semantic 目 and phonetic 丏, with 丏 pronounced as a fanqie of 綿 and 徧; the transmitted text writing it as 眄 is an erroneous vulgar character).
