哮吼（上孝交反埤蒼云哮赫怒也說文從口孝聲下訶苟反楚辭熊羆嘷吼考聲牛虎吼聲也）。

哮吼 [roaring and bellowing]: The first character is read with the fanqie xiao + jiao (xiào). The Picang says: 'Xiào means raging anger.' The Shuowen jiezi says it is composed of the [semantic] radical 'mouth' (口) and the sound xiào (孝). The second character is read with the fanqie he + gou (hǒu). The Chuci has: 'Bears and brown bears howl and roar.' The Kaosheng says it is the sound of oxen and tigers roaring.
