陗急（上音悄謂山陵陗陖也廣雅云陗急也許叔重注淮南子云陗陖也亦嚴刻也說文亦陖也從阜肖聲傳文作峭俗字也）。

陗急 [steep and urgent]: The first character is pronounced qiǎo; it refers to the steep precipitousness of hills and mountains. The Guangya says: 'Qiǎo means hasty.' Xu Shuzhong's commentary on the Huainanzi says: 'Qiǎo means steep; it also means stern and harsh.' The Shuowen jiezi also says: 'Precipitous. It is composed of the [semantic] radical 'mound' (阜) and the sound xiào (肖).' In the transmitted text it is written as 峭, which is a vulgar character.
