合[丞/巳]（下巾隱反字書從草作[卄/丞/巳]儀禮云四爵而合[卄/丞/且]鄭玄注云[卄/丞/巳]割瓠而合謂之[卄/丞/且]說文云[卄/丞/且]蟸也從已從丞亦聲也會意字也）。

Joining the halved gourds (合[丞/巳]: the second character is fanqie jin + yin [jǐn]. Character dictionaries write it with [the radical] 草 (grass) as [卄/丞/巳]. The Yili says: "After four cups, the halved gourds are joined." Zheng Xuan's commentary says: "[Jǐn] is a gourd split and then joined together, called [jǐn]." The Shuowen says: "[Jǐn] means a halved gourd; it is formed from 巳 and 丞, which also serves as phonetic; it is an ideogram").
