Headband (袜頟: the first character is [pronounced with the fanqie] 蠻八 [mò]. The Kaosheng states: '袜 means to bind.' The Zijing also writes it with the 'cloth' radical as 𭘕, with the same meaning as 袜. The Yunquan also writes it with the 'cloth' radical as 𭘕. The transmitted text writing 袹, pronounced 麥 [mài], is incorrect and divergent, and is not adopted here. The second character is [pronounced with the fanqie] 硬革 [é]; character dictionaries correctly write it as 額; the transmitted text writing 額 is a popular form).
