杳漠（上伊了反說文云香冥也從木曰聲下茫博反顧野王云漠猶家靜也爾雅清明也說文從水莫聲）。

Obscure and silent (杳: fanqie 伊了 [yǎo]. The Shuowen jiezi says: "Deep and dark; composed of 木 ('tree') with 日 ('sun')." The lower graph has the fanqie 茫博 [mò]. Gu Yewang says: "Mò means tranquil and serene." The Erya states: "Clear and bright." The Shuowen jiezi states: "Composed of 水 ('water') with 莫 phonetic").
