燔燼（上伐袁反說文云燔燒也從火番聲下似進反鄭箋詩云火餘曰燼說文作燼亦云火餘也從火聿聲）。

燔燼 [burnt to ashes / embers] (The upper character is pronounced with the fanqie fá + yuán. The Shuowen says: "Fán means to burn. It takes the fire radical and fān as phonetic." The lower character is pronounced with the fanqie sì + jìn. Zheng's commentary on the Shijing says: "The remnants of fire are called jìn." The Shuowen writes 燼, also saying: "The remnants of fire. It takes the fire radical and yù as phonetic.")
