壇墠 [tánshàn, altars and cleared grounds] (The first character has the fanqie 堂丹 [táng + dān]; the second has the fanqie 蟬闡 [chán + chǎn]. Kong's commentary on the Shangshu says: 'Piling up earth forms a tán; clearing the ground forms a shàn.' The Shuowen says: 'A tán is a sacrificial arena; a shàn is an open cleared field.' Both characters take 土 as semantic, and 亶 and 單 are their phonetics. Future instances should follow this).
