"Repeatedly preying upon" (荐食): [荐 is pronounced with the fanqie] qian + jian (jian). Du [Yu]'s commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: 'Jian (荐) is like repeatedly.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'It has the grass radical (艸) and cun (存) phonetic.'
