鞭撻（必綿反顧野王云鞭用革朾罪人也說文從革便聲下灘達反孔注尚書云撻笞也說文從手達聲集從革作韃非也）。

Flogging and scourging (First syllable 必綿 fanqie [biān]; Gu Yewang says: 'To use leather to beat transgressors.' The Shuowen says: 'Analyzed as from 革 [leather] with 便 phonetic.' Second syllable 灘達 fanqie [tà]; Kong's commentary on the Shangshu says: 'Ta means to flog.' The Shuowen says: 'Analyzed as from 手 [hand] with 達 phonetic.' The collected edition writes it with the leather radical as 韃, which is incorrect).
