Banchi 坂坻 (The first character is pronounced with the fanqie phonetic spelling fa + wan [bǎn], meaning steep or precipitous. The second character is pronounced zhi + zhi [chí]; the Classic of Poetry says: "Like islets, like mounds." The Shuowen says: "坂 also means a slope." It is also written with the radical 𨸏 as 阪. 坻 takes 土 as radical and 氐 as phonetic; 氐 is pronounced with the fanqie di + xi [dǐ]. The collected edition writes it with the radical 犀 as 墀, which refers to the cinnabar steps of the Son of Heaven, not the sense of a slope or islet).
