Duchu 獨𪄻 (The first character is pronounced with the fanqie phonetic spelling tong + lu [dú]; the second is pronounced shu + zhong [chōng]. The Kaosheng says: "Name of a bird." Zheng [Xuan]'s commentary to the Book of Rites says: "The bird that seeks dawn (the day-crowing nightjar)." The Fangyan says: "Between Zhou, Wei, Song, and Chu, it is called the duchong (alone-pounding bird), or called the dingjia, and another name is the keda; ke is pronounced ke, and da is pronounced dan." Guo [Pu]'s commentary says: "It resembles a pheasant, is five-colored, loses its feathers in winter, remains naked and red, and cries day and night." The collected edition gives 𪈌𪆊, which are vulgarly invented characters).
