Striking and chipping 撲揥 (the first character is pronounced [普 + 卜] *pū*. Gu Yewang says: "*Pu* [撲] means to beat or strike." The bottom character is pronounced [低 + 戾] *dì*. The Shenglei says: "*Di* [揥] means to damage." The Shuowen says both take 手 [hand] as radical, with 菐 and 帝 as their respective phonetics. 菐 has the same pronunciation as the first character).
