Crawling on hands and knees (匍匐; upper [character] *bù* + *mó* fanqie, lower *péng* + *mò* fanqie. The *Kaosheng* states: "Placing hands on the ground and prostrating on the ground." The *Shuowen jiezi* states: "Walking with hands; prostrating. Both derive from the *bāo* 勹 radical and are phono-semantic characters." 勹 is pronounced *bāo*).
