Jiaoren 絞人 (k- + [x]æw[X], [jiǎo]; the Kaosheng says: “It means to bind.” The Shiji says: “He strangled [jiao 絞] the man to death with the cord of his cap.” The Shuowen jiezi says: “Jiao 絞 means to hang or strangle; it is derived from the silk radical (糸) and has jiao 交 as phonetic”).
