頂戴 (Has the fanqie *dang* + *ai* [dài]. Character dictionaries state: "To bear on the head is called *dài*; it also means to raise something on the head." Kong's commentary on the *Shangshu* states: "Joyfully upholding what is above is called *dài*." Liu Xi states: "That which people look up to and uphold (*dài*)." The *Shuowen* states: "Formed with *yi* and has 𢦏 phonetic." 𢦏 is pronounced 災 [zāi]).
