'Dwellings and residences' [屋舍室宅] (Wū 屋 is pronounced with the fanqie weng + gu [wū]. The Shuowen says: 'Wu means to reside.' He Xiu's commentary on the Gongyang says: 'She means to stop.' The Baihutong says: 'Shi means solidity.' The Shuowen says: 'Zhai means relying.' That is, residing, staying, resting, and reality are four completely distinct senses, each having that which it expresses. In the Southern Version of the sūtra, Lord Xie [Lingyun], thinking it was redundant, modified the sūtra to read 'worldly dwellings'; though this appears to delete redundancy, I fear it loses the remaining meanings).
