Floating bubble (浮泡: the first character, fu [輔] + wu [無] fan. The Guangya says: “浮 means to drift.” Zheng's commentary to the Liji says: “Being on the surface is called 浮.” Jia's commentary to the Guoyu says: “浮 means light.” The Shuowen says: “To drift; formed from water [水] with 孚 phonetic.” The Wu pronunciation is bao [薄] + mou [謀] fan, not adopted here. The second character, pu [普] + bao [包] fan. The Kaosheng says: “Bubbles floating on water.” The Shuowen says it is formed from water [水] with 包 phonetic).
