Shaving the head (髠頭: the upper character is [read with the fanqie] 窟 + 昆. The Kaosheng says: "髠 means removing one's hair." The Shuowen jiezi says: "For adults it is called 髠; for young children it is called 剃." It is formed with the "hair" radical 髟 and has 兀 as phonetic. In the sūtra it is written as 𨱙, an erroneous, vulgar, abbreviated form that is incorrect. 髟 is read 必 + 遙).
