Valley echo (谷響: the second is pronounced with the fanqie 香兩 [xiǎng]. Kong's commentary on the Book of Documents says: "Like an echo responding to a sound." The Shuowen says: "A sound; deriving from 'sound' [音] with 鄉 as phonetic." The character 鄉 derives from [山/一/夗] [pronounced xiàng] and from 皂 [pronounced xiāng], the ancient form of the character 香).
