斲掘 'chopping and digging' (the first character is fanqie 竹角; Kong [Anguo's] commentary on the Shangshu says: '斲 means to pare or chop'; the Shuowen jiezi says: '斲 means to chop; it is formed from the axe [radical] with 𠁁 phonetic'; 𠁁 has the sound 豆; the second character is fanqie 群勿; the Guangya says: '掘 means to excavate'; the Wenzi dian shuo says: 'it is formed from the hand [radical] with 屈 phonetic').
