Dharma conch (faluo 法蠃: [the lower word is pronounced with the fanqie] lu + he [luo]. The Erya says: 'The fuluo is the yiyu.' Guo Pu's commentary says: 'The yiyu is a snail.' We note: the conch is white in color and is a musical instrument of the Grand Court of Imperial Sacrifices (Taichang); blowing it produces a fine sound heard for several li. The standard form in the Yan shi ziyang is written 蠃, taking guo 𣎆 as phonetic. In sūtra texts it is often written 螺, which is a popular form. This character 螺 has the three tones of level, rising, and departing; furthermore, it is not ancient, hence it is not adopted.).
