Piāolíng (飄零, drifting and withering / falling; the upper [character] has the fanqie [pǐ + yáo]; the commentary on the Mao Shi states: "Piāo (飄) is like blowing." The Mao Shi also states: "The sieve-basket makes a whirlwind"; the commentary states: "A wind that suddenly arises." The Gujin zhengzi states: It takes '風' (wind) with '票' as phonetic. The lower [character] has the fanqie [lì + dīng]; the commentary on the Shi states: "Líng (零) means falling/withering." The Guangya states: "To drop." The Shuowen states: "Residual rain"; it takes '雨' (rain) with '令' as phonetic).
