Gathering pell-mell ([撼-咸+(句-口+夕)]猥; the first character has the fanqie 宗董 [z- + -ǒng]; the Guangya says: "To knot; to amass." The Shuowen jiezi says: "To bind together into a bundle; it takes 'hand' (手) as semantic and 'sudden' (忽) as phonetic." In the sūtra text it is written as 捴, which is a popular form. The second character has the fanqie 烏悔 [w- + -ěi], meaning improper, disorderly, or unrestrained; it takes 'dog' (犬) as semantic and 'dread' (畏) as phonetic).
