鬼蜮 Demons and sand-shooters (pronounced [in fanqie] 于 + 逼; the Mao Shijing says: "Acting as ghosts, acting as yù;" the commentary says: "The short fox (sand-spitter)." Liu Zhao says: "It is shaped like a soft-shelled turtle and holds sand in its mouth to shoot at people; when it hits a person's skin it causes harm." The Shuowen says: "A three-legged creature that harms people by spitting sand with its breath; formed with 'insect' (虫) as semantic and 或 as phonetic").
