Cleaving apart [融剖] (普 plus 后 fanqie. Kong's commentary on the *Shangshu* states: "To strip off bark." Du's commentary on the *Zuo zhuan* states: "To divide down the middle is 剖." The *Shuowen* has it with 'knife' [刀] and 咅 phonetic. In the treatise, writing it with 'tongue' [舌] as 刮 is incorrect).
