Broad outline [梗概] (The upper character is 柯 plus 杏 fanqie. Wang Yi's commentary on the *Chuci* states: "梗 means strong." Guo's commentary on the *Erya* states: "It means straight." The lower character is 柯 plus 代 fanqie. Xue Zong's commentary on the *Dongdu fu* states: "梗概 means not fine and detailed." The *Shuowen* has both characters with 'tree' [木], and 更 and 既 as their respective phonetics).
