耒耜 (The first character is *l-d-. The Shiben says: "In antiquity, Chui invented the plow and plowshare; he was a minister under Shennong." The Kaosheng says: "The lěi is what is nowadays the plow handle; the curved wood above the plowshare. Formed from 丰 and 木." 丰 is pronounced jiè. 耜 is pronounced sì. The Kaosheng says: "It is like modern spade shovels with a handle and curved blade, resembling a plowshare, used in paddy fields." The Shuowen jiezi says: "耜 is formed from 耒 with [耜-耒]. [耜-耒] is the ancient character for 以; the upper opening does not close, so it is this." It is also written in three forms: 㭒 and 鈻.)
