明星（上說文從[囗@(儿/口)]作明蔡邕從目作明古文從日作明三體皆通經典多用古文明字[囗@(儿/口)]音鬼永反下星字古文作曐尒雅曰明星謂之啟明郭璞注云太白星也晨見東方為啟明昏見西方為太白）。

Mingxing 明星 (For the upper character, the Shuowen derives it from [囗@(儿/口)], writing it as 明; Cai Yong wrote it with the eye radical as 明; the ancient script wrote it with the sun radical as 明. All three forms are acceptable; the classical scriptures mostly use the ancient script form. The character [囗@(儿/口)] has the fanqie gui + yong. For the lower character xing, the ancient script wrote it as 曐. The Erya states: 'The bright star is called Qiming.' Guo Pu's commentary states: 'The Great White Star (Venus). Appearing in the east at dawn, it is Qiming; appearing in the west at dusk, it is Taibai.').
