姥陀羅尼（上莫補反字書云老母也說文云女師也又作姆字同上今案姥即觀自在菩薩部姥陁羅尼名号）。

Mu Dhāraṇī (姥陀羅尼: the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 莫補 [m- + -uo = mǔ]. A dictionary says: 'An elderly mother.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'A female instructor.' It is also written 姆, with the same sound as above. We examine that Mu (姥) refers here to the title of the Mu Dhāraṇī belonging to the Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva division).
