橘柚 (The first character has the fanqie 居聿 [jū + yù]. The Shuowen jiezi states: 'The name of a fruit.' The Zhouli states: 'Crossing the Huai River to the north, they turn into trifoliate oranges; it is due to the climate of the earth.' The second character has the fanqie 余救 [yú + jiù]. The Zishu states: 'Resembling an orange but larger, with a thick peel.' The Guangzhi states: 'The pomelos of Chengdu are as large as peck measures.' Guo [Pu's] commentary on the Erya states: 'The pomelo resembles a bitter orange and is sour; it grows south of the Yangtze.' Both characters are derived from 木 [tree] with 矞 and 由 respectively as phonetics).
