階墀（上音皆下直尼反玉篇曰階謂登堂之道也說文曰墀謂以丹塗地謂之丹墀又道也亦階也）。

Steps and courtyard (階墀) (The first [character] has the sound jiē. The second has the fanqie zhí + ní [chí]. The Yupian states: 'Jiē refers to the path for ascending the hall.' The Shuowen states: 'Chí refers to smearing the ground with cinnabar; it is called dānchí (cinnabar courtyard). It is also a path; also steps').
