穽陷（上疾政反古文作阱阮也書云敜乃穽字書云陷獸曰穽下戶蘸反切韻云入也隤沒也考聲云墮也說文作臽小阮也蘸音㽵陷反臽字從⺈在臼上也⺈音人諂燄之類皆從此或從爪作舀音羊小反韜蹈之字於此敜音躡）。

Pitfall trap (穽陷: the first character has the fanqie 疾 + 政. In ancient script it is written 阱, meaning a pit. The Shangshu says: "Block [敜] your pitfall traps." Character dictionaries say: "Trapping animals is called jing." The second character has the fanqie 戶 + 蘸. The Qieyun says: "To enter; to collapse and sink." The Kaosheng says: "To fall." The Shuowen jiezi writes it as 臽, a small pit. Zhan (蘸) has the fanqie 㽵 + 陷. The character 臽 consists of ⺈ above 臼; ⺈ is pronounced like 人; words such as 諂 and 燄 all follow this. Some write it with 爪 as 舀, pronounced with the fanqie 羊 + 小; characters like 韜 and 蹈 derive from this. Nie (敜) is pronounced nie [躡]).
