觱篥（上卑吉反下力質反本胡樂名也毛詩云一之曰觱發二之日篥烈傳云一之日周之正月也觱發寒風二之日殷之正月篥烈寒氣也經文作篳篥二字同說文從竹畢栗聲也）。

Bili reed-pipe (bili 觱篥: the first character has the fanqie [reading] bei + ji [bi]. The second character has the fanqie [reading] li + zhi [li]. Originally it is the name of a foreign instrument. The Classic of Poetry says: "In the first month the cold winds blow sharply; in the second month the chill intensifies." The commentary says: "The first month is the first month of the Zhou calendar; 觱發 means biting cold wind. The second month is the first month of the Yin calendar; 篥烈 means piercing cold air." The text of the scripture writes 篳篥, and both characters are equivalent. The Shuowen [jiezi] says it takes 'bamboo' [as semantic component] with bi and li as phonetics).
