和尚（正梵語㨶波地耶此云近讀謂此尊師為弟子親近習讀者也舊翻為親教良以彼土流俗云殟社此方訛轉謂之和尚相承既久翻譯之者順方俗云）。

和尚 (Upādhyāya: the correct Sanskrit is upādhyāya; translated here as “close reader,” meaning this venerable master is one whom the disciple approaches closely to study and recite with; the older translation was “intimate instructor.” Truly, because popular speech in that land called it *uvajjhā, it was corrupted in this land into heshang; this having been handed down for a long time, the translators followed local convention).
