𣖳椎（上渠焉反爾雅曰椹謂之𣖳郭注云斫木櫍也下直追反說文擊也從木隹聲經文作楗槌或作揵稚梵語薜吒迦此云所打即或銅或木擊以警眾也）。

𣖳椎: The upper [character is read with the] fanqie qu + yan. The Erya states: 'A chopping block is called a 𣖳.' Guo's Commentary states: 'A block of wood for chopping.' The lower [character is read with the] fanqie zhi + zhui. The Shuowen jiezi states: 'To strike; formed from wood (木) with zhui (隹) providing the phonetic sound.' In the text of the sūtra it is written as jianchui (楗槌) or jianzhi (揵稚), which in Sanskrit is ghaṇṭikā (薜吒迦); here this translates as 'that which is struck,' namely bronze or wood beaten to alert the assembly.
