矛矟（上莫侯反呂氏春秋云蚩尤作矛考聲酋矛戈之類也說文矛長二丈建於兵車也有作鉾俗字下雙卓反博雅云矟亦矛也古今正字矟長丈八尺文字典說今之戟矟也有作槊㮶皆非正字）。

矛矟 (for the first character, [máo], fanqie 莫侯 [m- + -əu = məu/máo]. The Lüshi chunqiu says: “Chiyou made lances.” The Kaosheng says: “A qiú-lance is of the dagger-axe class.” The Shuowen says: “A lance is twenty feet long, mounted on war chariots.” Some write it with the vulgar character 鉾. For the second character, [shuò], fanqie 雙卓 [ʃ- + -ˠʌk = ʃˠʌk/shuò]. The Boya says: “矟 is also a lance.” The Gujin zhengzi says: “A lance is eighteen feet long.” The Wenzidian says: “It is the halberd-lance (戟矟) of today.” Some write it as 槊 or 㮶; neither is the standard character.)
