象蹋 (for the first character, [xiàng], fanqie 徐兩 [z- + -ɨaŋ = zɨaŋ/xiàng]. The Erya says: “Among the excellences of the south, there are the rhinoceroses and elephants of Liangshan.” Guo's commentary says: “Large beasts, with long trunks and large ears; giving birth once every three years.” Sometimes written 𤉢. For the second character, [tà], fanqie 徒合 [d- + -ʌp = dʌp/tà]. The Yunying says: “To kick.” The Kaosheng says: “To trample underfoot.” In the sūtra it is written 踏, pronounced 他合 [tʰ- + -ʌp = tʰʌp/tà], meaning walking on the ground; this was not the sūtra's meaning. Another written form 踏 does not form a proper character.)
