豺狼（上士諧反爾雅曰豺狗足郭注云脚似狗切韻狼屬也禮記云豺祭獸也下音郎爾雅曰牝貛牝狼說文似犬銳頭而白頰從犬良聲）。

豺狼 (for the first character, [chái], fanqie 士諧 [dʐ- + -æi = dʐˠæi/chái]. The Erya says: “The dhole has dog feet.” Guo's commentary says: “Its feet resemble a dog's.” The Qieyun says: “Of the wolf class.” The Liji says: “The dholes make an offering of beasts.” For the second character, pronounced 郎 [láng]. The Erya says: “Female badgers and female wolves.” The Shuowen says: “Resembles a dog, with a pointed head and white cheeks. It takes 犬 as radical and 良 as phonetic.”)
