諦聽（上都計反說文云諦審也從言帝聲下他定反考聲待也說文云審也字書謀也又聆也說文從𢛳耳壬聲也𢛳音得壬音他頂反謂以耳審得其聲也壬即聲又他丁反）。

Listen attentively (diting 諦聽: the first character has the fanqie [reading] du + ji [di]. The Shuowen [jiezi] says: "諦 means to examine carefully." It takes 'speech' [as semantic component] and di as phonetic. The second character has the fanqie [reading] ta + ding [ting]. The Kaosheng says: "To wait." The Shuowen [jiezi] says: "To examine." The dictionary says: "To deliberate." It also means to listen. The Shuowen [jiezi] says it takes 𢛳, 'ear', and ren as phonetic. 𢛳 is pronounced de. 壬 has the fanqie [reading] ta + ding [ting]. It means to examine and grasp the sound with one's ears. 壬, being phonetic, also has the fanqie ta + ding [ting]).
