枯䩌（上苦姑反切韻朽也從本古聲也下即消反說文云面皮枯黑也從面焦形聲字經文從火作燋謂燒物傷火也）。

Withered and gaunt (枯䩌: the first [character] is *ku*, fanqie 苦姑. The Qieyun says: 'Decayed.' Derived from the tree radical 木 with 古 as phonetic. The second [character] is *jiao*, fanqie 即消. The Shuowen jiezi says: 'The skin of the face is withered and blackened.' Derived from the face radical 面 with 焦 as a phono-semantic compound. In the sūtra text it is written with the fire radical 火 as 燋, meaning an object scorched by fire).
